MUENCHEN, 4 January 2016 - After the success of the two generations of the BMW M3 (E30) and the BMW M3 (E36), BMW presents the third generation. The BMW E46 M3 first appeared in October 2000.

BMW brings back the sports aura of the E30. Only available in coupe and convertible body models, BMW showcases more muscle in the design, with bonnet ridges, wheel arches, (faux) air fender vents and quad exhausts.

The engine also uses the more powerful 3.2 liter 6 in line, which produces 343 PS of power. This engine became the very well known BMW M3. Sticking to the six-speed transmission and SMG, the E46 can throw itself from 0-100 km / h in just 5.1 seconds.

In the world of racing, BMW came up with the successful M3 GTR at the 2001 American Le Mans Series. Using the 500 PS powered engine produced by the 4.0 liter V8 engine, BWM won two titles that year and the 2003 24 Hour Nürburgring.

BMW also launched special editions such as the M3 CSL 2004. Limited made less than 1,400 units. This model removes some features and uses a carbon fiber roof. This feature is also used on the E92 and F80 M3, as well as the M4 F82.

In total, this model sold about 85,000 units when production was stopped in 2006.
